Pasta Salad

I saw on one of the website of the rat breeder that they feed their rats pasta salad (of course no oil etc). So I tried it today. I cooked some pasta, and put some carrots, broccoli and peas. They love it! Also their potty training is going well. They most part go to their potty, except they pee on their hammocks so I have to wash it often to prevent it from smelling. Also I started doing out of cage time on my bed, which is easier since I put their cage next to my bed, so I don't have to take them downstairs to use dining table for out of cage time. They like it this way so that they can go back and forth between their cage and the bed to do the maze and get treats etc. They are so much more comfortable with me and I am really enjoying them.

Potty training

Boys are getting better at potty. I use Yesterday's news as a litter. I finally removed bedding on the bottom of the cage and replaced it with baby fleece blanket. I really hope our boys will go only in potty. They also pee and poop on their hammocks. I don't want them to sleep on their poop. Cleaning every day to keep their clean. Hopefully by the end of this month, they will completely potty trained.

I just have to say this. They are so sweet. I really love my rats. I just want to spend time with them all day long! They are absolutely amazing animals! They are leaning their potty pretty well so far. I love that they are constantly leaning and growing.
They are also absolutely beautiful animals. They are so adorable!

Made own hammock, tunnel and got plastic tubing from Lowes

Finally I made hand made hammock and a fabric tunnel on my own. I also got 4 inch plastic tubings from Lowes for outside cage time for my boys. They absolutely love them! Latte has been warming up a lot more today. He is progressing every day. He is trusting more and more.

Baby food

Our new addition Latte adopted from Candirats is doing great. He already comes to me for treats and he comes to me when I open the gate. Still little bit shy, but I am so pleased since it is only his 2nd day with me. I really love rats from Candice. Also since he is little older, he is much calmer and I really like that. He can just sit on my lap or on my shoulder.

I had out of cage time with boys at dinning table. I am thinking about going to Lowes tomorrow to buy some plastic fitting tubing for their outside cage time to have fun.

I also tried baby food with my boys. They love it I fed them sweet potato baby food. We had good time.

Adopted one more rat!

This past Sunday, I went to pick up one more rat from Candirats! He is a half brother of Coco. I think I am going to name him Latte (He is more like coffee color than chocolate like Coco.) He is very calm and slow. He is still scared of me to come out to me except getting his treats, but we are getting to know each other. I feel like my rat family is complete with 4 boys. I also learned that we can trim rats' nails. That is something that is scary but I will try.

Adopting one more rat from Candirats!

I am so excited that I am adopting one more rat from Candirats! I absolutely love Coco. He already loves to play with me, and he climbs up to my shoulder if I open his cage. I am so excited to have one more boy with me!!!

Theodore gave me kisses!

Today, Theodore gave me kisses for the first time! I am so happy! He is so sweet. He knows his name the most and he responds when I called him the most. He is absolutely adorable.

I love Coco!

My new addition Coco is absolutely sweet. He is still getting used to me, but he is just so beautiful and his personality is sweet. I just love him so much. I cannot thank enough for Candice, his breeder. I am so lucky to find a great breeder whom I can go to and adopt from.

Bonding with boys

Today, for the out of cage time, I went down stair and used my dining table. It worked out ok, too. They cannot jump off from table since it is pretty high. I wonder what is the best way. I also spot cleaned again today since I felt like it is getting smelly. I wonder how to teach my boys potty. I guess I have to try and see and also my boys are still pretty young so maybe that is why. They poop even when they are out of cage, too. I hope this will improve as they get older.

Added some toys in the cage

I added some toys in the cage for fun. Boys likes tunnels. They absolutely love carrots. I also tried apples, pears, green beans, and even some nuts, but they don't like them that much. I just love carrots. Coco is also that way. I want to try cabbage tomorrow to see if they like them

Snuggle Scarf arrived!

I purchased a snuggle scarf from Rat Fan Club and it has arrived! So far I like it. I can just put them in there and type this entry. I think Mochi likes it the most. Theodore just wanted to come out (He is the active one). We will see if he will like it in the future.

Again, boys still not learning potty. I spot cleaned today since it started to smell. I just put new bedding on Tuesday so it only lasted 3 days. I use carefresh ultra, but maybe I need to mix some aspen with the bedding? Not sure. I will do research and see if there is better method in keeping the cage less smelly.

Out of Cage time!

I finally got a good idea. I have out of cage time with my boys in the bathroom! My master bedroom's bathroom is pretty decent size, so it seems like working. Yay! I moved my heavy huge cage into my bathroom (Usually they will just stay next to my bed though) and let them play in and out of the cage. Rats are absolutely fun to be with. I cannot wait until I bond with them so well that I can teach them tricks! (Especially I want to teach them how to do paw because I saw it on youtube and it was amazing)

Rat Care

I am using care fresh ultra for the bedding. I feed forti diet blocks for food. I am attempting to potty train Mochi and Theodore, so I placed a plastic tub inside few days ago, but so far, they have not used it as a potty....wonder if they will ever learn to use potty inside their cage. Right now, I am searching a perfect playpen for the boys. I am using my kid's baby play panels, but since they are still small, they can squeeze themselves out from it if I am not careful. I also ordered rat lady's snuggle scarf from Rat fan club website so I can't wait for it to arrive! I am absolutely in love with Coco. He is just so beautiful. I love his color and his big eyes. His coat is so smooth. All three of my boys love carrots. It is so fun to play with them after my kids go to sleep. It is my time with my rat boys.

New rat has arrived

I have adopted Coco - Sable Burmese boy from Candirats! I am so glad to find a great breeder in Bay Area. I really like his color. He has nice milk chocolate color! He is also very sweet. He is in a separate cage right now and will be with my boys in two weeks.

My new cage and new rat

My new cage arrived! It is called Super Pet My first home for Exotic. It is 18.1x30.1x29 inch size and wires on the cage are 1/2, which is the same for any rat cage. According to the rat cage calculator, it is big enough for 4 rats. I was first almost ordered Martin's cage, because a lot of websites recommended. But as I was reading the details, you have to actually put them together with a tool. I always have hard time putting anything together. Also it charges almost 30+ dollars shipping cost. Also you have to buy carpeting for floors in order to prevent injury. So I continued to do the research and found this! You can buy this anywhere. I got mine from Amazon.com with free shipping for about $100. Totally worth it and great cage!

My Rats - Intro

I have two boy rats right now. One is Theodore, (the top one, blue hooded) and the other one is Mochi. They are about 6 weeks old right now. They are so sweet. Theo seems like he likes to explore. Mochi seems like he will be a lazy lap pet. Well, we will see how they will grow up. They have already learned their names (I think) and their favorite treats are carrots and Cherrios.
